National Championship: Washington Huskies v. Michigan Wolverines

Pros and Cons for Each CFP Team Tonight

What a treat we have this Monday night with Washington and Michigan squaring off in what should shape up to be an electric game!

Huskies vs. Wolverines

Washington Huskies:

PROS - Washington comes into this game undefeated and having played in what now seems like a very good conference beating the PAC-12. The PAC 12 has showed up in a strong way in this seasons bowl games and the Huskies are right at the top of that conference. Michael Penix Jr. to me is what is the biggest pro to this Huskies offense. The guy just doesn’t get fazed he’s been an underdog in every big game and big stage this year and has won outright against Oregon in the pac 12 championship game and now against Texas in the semi final game last week. The huskies also have really good receivers with Rome Odunze leading the pack. The huskies have an elite air attack but will it be able to exploit Michigans defense?

CONS - The huskies have shown some weaknesses against some of the bottom tier teams in the pac 12 in almost losing to Washington state at home and Utah gave them a battle as well in Washington. One of Washington’s weaknesses is they allow opponents to finish drives they rank 90th in the nation when it comes to letting opponents finish drives with a TD. It will remain to be seen if Michigan can make them pay for that weakness tonight.

Michigan Wolverines:

PROS - The Wolverines come into this game with a top 10 secondary in college football. They also have an elite run defense as well. The wolverines are pretty much an elite defense all around this is one of their biggest pros. The run defense might not matter as much since l Washington was barely able to run the ball against Texas and still won. Another pro they have is that they have faced some tough competitors this year in the likes of Alabama and Ohio state this year so the strength of schedule has been there for the wolverines along with experience since they were there last year in the playoffs but lost to TCU.

CONS - The last time that Michigan faced an elite group of receivers was Ohio state and Marvin Harrison Jr. put up over 100 yards on them. Although JJ McCarthy put together a game tying drive last week against Alabama he does seem to be the lesser of the 2 quarterbacks in this game. I would say that Washington has the upper hand at the QB position here. We’ll see if McCarthy can outshine Penix in this one game tonight or if Penix will ball out per usual.

CJ’s Opinion Checklist:

  • Better Coach: Michigan (Harbaugh) - could be debatable
  • Better QB: Washington (Penix)
  • Better Defense: Michigan

I’m looking forward to this game tonight as I’m sure you are too. There should be an electric atmosphere in NRG stadium tonight and you won’t want to miss it! Enjoy the game guys as we say bye to college football til we meet again later this year.
